Put you in my pocket

a couple weeks ago karen and i shot a wedding for a couple we'd never met. the bride's sister had come in, met with us, booked the wedding and it was done.

at 2pm on the wedding day we arrived. it was just before josiah, the groom, walked up on his way back from the pool. karen drove off to go photograph the bride, and i followed josiah up to his room. after telling me a bit about his family with a forewarning that i wouldn't remember them all (little did he know i have five step-siblings and two half brothers) they all showed up. it was like a clown car hotel room. two sisters, a half sister, a step-sister, a brother, two mothers, a father, two best men, another friend, a boyfriend (justina's, not josiah's) and a traveling guitar.

and they were exceptional. josiah mentioned twice that i did more than just take pictures. "he'll talk to you too" he said. and it was totally to my benefit, because they were great. i'm not sure i've ever been in the company of such a tight-knit, loving and caring family and it was perhaps one of hte most inspiring evenings i've had in quite some time.

thank you again to kelly (the bride's sister) for hiring us to be a part of the wedding.

all my very best wishes to a newly united family and a blessed adventure for josiah and erin. and now for our favorite pics....

here's my photo of karen doing a portrait of the b & g. i love that she's not opposed to getting down and dirty to get the shot.

07.07.07

"Couples bet on 07.07.07 as a lucky wedding day" read the cover of The Journal News that morning, and a photo of Kerry & Joseph ran alongside it. They had snagged us to photograph their wedding (you wouldn't believe how many inquiries we had for this date--at the hotel where they got ready there were five weddings taking place!!!) which turned out to be very cool, because their wedding was full of surprises...But to start, here's the photo of the article which featured them.

as kerry got ready, cool thing #2 was spotted...her friends had signed the bottom of her shoe for good luck...

but here was quite the surprise for me...when the bride and groom exited the church, the guests threw....no, not rice....no, not biodegradable non-bird killing fake rice....no, not bubbles...or confetti....but.....yes....butterflies. butterflies in boxes, set free as kerry and joe made their way outside. it didn't quite go over with the visual climax one might expect, as the butterflies sort of milled about and hesitated before flying off. and, if you are an animal rights sort, you might have some issues with the boxed up butterflies before the release, but it was definitely different and definitely interesting. here's my favorite shot of the moment....

kerry and joe were really fun and cool. here's some shots from the portrait session we did after the ceremony...

the reception was at The View on the Hudson in Piermont, NY. beautiful place, great food, and the weather was perfect.

another fun surprise. check out this AMAZING cake!!!! the coolest i've ever seen, for sure.

and then, apparently kerry is a baseball fan, because Mr. Met showed up and his presence caused quite the brouhaha...

and some of my favorites from devon's time with the guys getting ready....

congrats kerry and joe! may you have much luck with your lucky wedding date and throughout your marriage!

Back to the Mill

this past saturday it was back to the mill in spring lake heights, nj for david and michelle's wedding. it was a lot of fun, especially since our much-loved colleague rich was there shooting video. i met rich, president of his company Avvento Wedding Cinematography, on a wedding about three years ago and have been a big fan since then...he is to video what we are to photography, which is to say, he's not in your face when you're doing your thang...and he's a cool cat...

here are some favorites from the day...
